Some Basics
Trunk Shows
Are you interested in having a trunk show at Silver Lining Yarns? We love having other indie makers join us. We have a dedicated space for trunk shows and events. Contact us with your terms, and letās talk! We are always looking for yarn and fiber dyers, designers, fiber-related jewelers, and makers of notions. This is a great way to see if our brands mesh.
Special Orders
Looking for a specific color, but we donāt carry it or have it in stock? We will gladly work with you to find the right color, weight, or amount. Our order policy for these items will vary depending on the requirements of our wholesale contracts, but your order will always be our top priority. Special orders require a 50% deposit upon placement, with the balance due upon receipt of the order. We ask that special orders be picked up promptly.
Special orders for Bewitched Pigments colors must be paid in full.
Layaway
We understand how challenging it can be to have your heart set on a specific yarn for a larger project and not be able to afford the whole amount upfront. That is why we offer a layaway program for larger orders. We're more than happy to discuss setting up a customized plan that suits your needs.
Your burning questions š„
What is a third space?
Have you ever been sitting at home wishing you had somewhere to go? Nowhere in particular. You just donāt want to be at home. You want to go somewhere to hang out with friends or be āsomewhere elseā than at home as you read or work on your fingering weight granny square blanket. Nothing seems right. This is where third spaces come into play. We wanted to create an area where crafters could go to be with other like-minded people to work on their crafts, sit and listen to a book, or meet up for some social interaction. Silver Lining Yarns provides a space for that. As long as there isnāt a class or organized meetup or event, the tables and chairs at Silver Lining Yarns are open for people to come and enjoy being somewhere else.
Can I bring outside products to work on in the shop?
Absolutely! We will never shame you for bringing in projects or supplies you got elsewhere. Honestly, we'd love to see them! Maybe they'd be a good fit for us in the future. š
This policy also includes classes. We will always work with you to ensure the products you use are suitable substitutes for any required class supplies.
Are children welcome in the shop?
Yes. We do ask that they either stay with their grown-ups or be able to independently and respectfully entertain themselves.
I want to increase my skills, but I canāt afford the class fees. Do you offer reduced fees?
While we donāt offer reduced fees, we do have a scholarship program that is available to help offset the cost of class fees and materials. We also have micro-workshops in the pipeline to offer smaller bites of skills at a lower cost.
A scholarship program? That sounds extremely kind. How does it work?
When you shop with us, you will be asked at checkout if you would like to round up the cost of your purchase to the nearest dollar. That change will be collected into our scholarship fund. You can also donate more via the tips function at checkout. When customers want to increase their knowledge base and skills, but donāt have the necessary funds, they can talk to a staff member about applying for our scholarship program. When funds are available, we will happily help to make sure people have the learning experience they are seeking.
All about scholarships
Where does the money come from?
Scholarship funds are donations made by rounding up purchases, adding a tip at checkout, or funds given primarily for the scholarship fund.
Who can apply for the scholarships?
Anyone who needs it. We recognize that not everyone can afford class fees and the required materials, and we believe that people shouldnāt be barred from enhancing their skills due to a lack of disposable income.
What does the scholarship cover?
Scholarships can be used to offset the cost of class fees and/or materials purchased in the shop. Some of our classes will include materials in the class fees, which can be used with scholarship funds.
Will the instructors still get paid?
Yes. We value the expertise and time of our instructors, and they will always be paid their full pay.
What if there are no funds available?
Sadly, if funds arenāt available, we wonāt be able to assist with scholarships. We will put people on waiting lists or work with them to see what we can do to make educational opportunities more affordable.
Why are you doing this?
We don't believe it's fair that people are kept from expanding their skill sets because they donāt have the same disposable income as someone else. We believe all people should be able to enjoy crafting regardless of income. This is why you will find yarns in our shop that cost $40 a skein as well as yarns that cost $5. Fiber arts should not be elitist.
