My First Sweater: An Introduction to Knitting Garments

Join us for our first edition of My First Sweater: An Introduction to Knitting Garments! In this 3-part class, you'll learn the basics on how to test your gauge, how to read patterns with multiple size options, work increases & decreases, place stitches on hold, pick stitches back up, and overall, how to make a seamless sweater!

Class will be held across three sessions from 6-8 on April 4th, 18th, and 25th.

The pattern used in this class is customizable, can use either a DK or Worsted Weight yarn, and is made for sizes ranging from 0-6 months to an adult 6X. As a result, the amount of yarn needed may vary depending on those options. Check out some of our favorites here!

Sizing and Supplies:

DK

Sizes: 0-6 mo (6-12 mo, 1-2 yrs, 2-4 yrs, 4-6 yrs, 6-8 yrs, 8-10 yrs, XS, S, SM, M, ML, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL, 6XL)

Finished Chest Measurement: 18 (20.5, 22, 24, 26, 28.5, 30, 32, 34, 36.5, 38, 40, 42, 46, 50, 55.5, 60.5, 65, 70,)“

Yardage for cropped length: 260 (320, 400, 500, 620, 720, 860, 1040, 1160, 1220, 1300, 1440, 1580, 1720, 1940, 2180, 2280, 2500, 2640) yards

Needles:
US Sizes 4 & 6 (3.5mm & 4.0mm)

0 to 2 yrs: 16” circular, and DPNs* in each size.
4 to 10 yrs: 16”, 24” circulars, and DPNs* in each size.
XS to XL: 16”, 32” circulars, and DPNs* in each size.
XXL to 6XL: 16”, 32”, 48” circulars, and DPNs* in larger size, 16”, 48” circulars, and DPNs* in smaller size.

Alternatively you can use the magic loop technique to knit in the round using a single long circular needle.

Worsted
